Professional development in sustainable HVAC

03 Sep 2021

AIRAH was supported financially by the ARBS Foundation in its development of a professional diploma in sustainable HVAC design and operation.

We believe this program will provide valuable opportunities for industry personnel to keep their skills up-to-date.

The professional diploma has been in development over the past year. In the Covid related environment that we are forced to work in, the program will be delivered online. The current environment underscores the important role that online educational will play in supporting the industry’s education initatives.

AIRAH provided its final project report to the Foundation in late August.

Four modules make up package.

  • Principles of sustainable HVAC systems.
  • Codes, standards and rating tools.
  • Design of sustainable HVAC systems.
  • Maximising sustainability in operation

The new online education and training program explores all elements of energy efficiency of building HVAC, focusing on those design elements that affect the operational energy efficiency of HVAC as well as the importance of facilitating good commissioning, maintenance and ongoing management of HVAC through appropriate design choices.

Better outcomes for the industry and clients in terms of increased energy efficient operation of buildings; reduced HVAC energy usage; improved IEQ outcomes and improve sustainability aspects will be achieved when appropriately trained people undertake the work.

Enrolment in the program will commence in September
