Applying For A Research Grant
Through its charter the Foundation is committed to improving industry productivity through research, education and training.
Many challenges and issues requiring solution confront the airconditioning, refrigeration and building services industries. These issues may be technical, environmental or commercial.
In order to contribute in a practical way to the solution of these problems and issues, the Foundation will fund research projects.
Applications for research grants will be sought and accepted either because the foundation has:-
- Identified and then published details of an issue it believes should be addressed. A judgement of this nature will be after there has been broad discussion with a range of industry experts and practitioners; and/or
- An individual, company or university faculty has identified an important issue worthy of further research and study.
In all instances the research will need to be “applied”, that is, research to solve specific problems or take advantage of opportunities which may arise from time to time.
Preference will be given to projects that are relatively short in duration (e.g., the outcome is achievable in a year) or that can be accomplished in discrete stages or phases rather than longer projects with less definitive goals.
Research project proposals will need to include a marketing or audience distribution plan as part of the project.
A realistic budget will be required. The budget will need to detail direct costs, any in-kind contribution, payments to external providers and capital costs.
An application for a research grant must be made using the application form available on the website.
Guidance notes to applicants are also available to assist applicants to prepare their proposal.
The Foundation will consider all applications for research funding including those that address technical, scientific, policy and other issues the industry faces.
The Foundation Trustees board have identified 3 categories as ones where it would welcome proposals.
- Solar power and HVAC.
- Intelligent building controls.
- Indoor environmental quality.
To apply for a research grant from the Foundation, applicants need to complete and forward the application form. The Trustees will review all applications received and decide at their sole discretion which applications will receive funding support.
